Uppsala Update: Bike Disintegrating
A short update of life in Uppsala. Time is flying, in less than two weeks my stay "abroad" is already over. My bike somehow seems to know that date because it is starting to disintegrate. A few weeks ago, I noticed two small "bumps" on the mantle of the front wheel. They are starting to get bigger now, a few more times driving over kerb stones and the puncture is there.
But not only the front wheel has a problem. The chain from time to time jumps off the chain ring, making the backpedal brake ineffective. This wouldn't be such a big deal hadn't the hand brake wrecked this morning. So the redundancy of the braking systems of my bike is not given anymore. One more thing and the bike can be sold as raw steel (or whatever it is made of) to China to build new cars.
The weather, by the way, has really gotten nice the last few weeks. One month ago, we still had snow here and not it is plus 20° C! So somebody has pulled the switch from winter to summer.
Killing Time
Another footnote: Some exchange students here are really bored and so don't have anything useful to do that there was reportedly one French guy this morning who after being back at Flogsta from a lecture went to the University again just to pick up his free copy of the Financial Times. :-)
